05 Jan Are self driving cars safe?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety-Highway Loss Data Institute has an excellent article about the advent of self-driving cars. The article explains “How smart vehicles can ‘see'”
Though some think that self driving cars will eliminate crashes through radars, cameras, and artificial intelligence. The technology involved in a self driving future is exciting.
The current self driving cars utilize an “adaptive cruise control,” “lane-keeping assist,” and “blind-spot assist” to assist in the driving experience.
Right now Tesla, Waymo, Volvo, and a few others have produced self driving cars. The world is being taken over by them. Even Uber is going to utilize them soon.
Personally, I sometimes get that “Don’t Tread On Me” feeling rising up in my chest, and I feel this self-driving stuff is a government grab through auto companies to take away my liberty. “Freedom” was the cry of William Wallace in Braveheart (starring Mel Gibson for those of your who are too young to remember), and we should shout it out as these crazy cars begin to encroach on our rights!
You can read the article here: Self driving cars are coming. It outlines all of the different types of driverless cars and systems and documents the ongoing effort to raise awareness of them.
But we want to hear from you.
What do you think of self driving cars? Are you a fan?
Will you buy one?
What will you do if there is a huge push to force people to buy them and only use them on Federal Highways (because it is coming guys). Over 17,000 traffic deaths occurred last year according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Don’t think for a second that your Senator and Congressman can’t get lobbied hard enough to force you to buy one.
So give us your thoughts below.
