The United States must do more to protect Kurdistan
Two days ago, Iranian led forces operating under the guise of an action by the Iraqi military. Those groups included:
Iranian backed Popular Mobilization Units:
Al Badr brigade
Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq (in police uniforms)
PMU Brigade 20th
This is obviously a push to try to minimize Kurdish influence in the region, and a response to the Kurdish Independence Referendum. The United States does not appear to have offered any support to the Kurds to defuse the situation or to protect their positions within the city. What is shocking is that the Kurds have been the most valiant and successful fighters against ISIS in Syria. Why isn’t the US supporting them in Iraq, especially when the Kurds are the only people that are openly supportive of the US. If you are a US citizen, you would not dare walk around in the streets of any Iraqi city south of Kurdistan for fear of being kidnapped. This is not so in Kurdistan where they have rule of law and protect minorities such as Christians.
Why do you think the US is permitting these groups to take Kirkuk? What do you think should be done about it? Why isn’t the US doing more to stop Iranian encroachment in Iraq?
